The 21st STaPs (SprachwissenschaftlicheTagung für Promotionsstudierende – ‘Linguistics Conference for Ph.D. students’) will take place in a hybrid format (Budapest and online).

We are pleased to announce that the 21st ‘International’ Linguistics Conference for Ph.D. Students (STaPs-21) will be organized and hosted by Pázmány Péter Catholic University, Budapest, the Doctoral School of Linguistics from the 28th of February to the 1st of March of 2024. We look forward to welcoming you.

STaPs, as a conference by Ph.D. students for Ph.D. students, is unique among PhD conferences in that it welcomes both work in progress and work in the planning phase, as well as work that focuses on methodological issues/challenges rather than on completed research projects/ attained results. Projects of any area of linguistics can be presented (theoretical and descriptive linguistics as well as language acquisition, phonetics, psycho-, neuro-, sociolinguistics, pragmatics and computational linguistics; synchronic or diachronic).

We welcome 500-word abstracts (including references) for the following categories:

-Talks (20 min. + 5 min. Q&A)
-Posters (30 min.)
-Workshops (45 min.)

4 Grants (75 Euros each) will be given to students who will present in person on topics in German linguistics (varieties/dialects in German linguistics). Please contact us for more details.
